ACM FOUNDATION DIRECTOR
A foundation director reports to ACM’s Board of Directors. The director has the ultimate responsibility of making sure the foundation accomplishes its goals and objectives. He will prepare a Strategic Planning Framework (SPF), specifically a laying out of the foundation’s: Vision, Mission, Objectives, Key Result Areas, Performance Indices, Strategies, Plans of Action, Task, Resources required.
As the chief administrator, the director is responsible for hiring staff as needed. He makes sure the foundation has the space needed to house the staff appropriately, and the technology and other tools to do their jobs efficiently. In addition to overseeing the day-to-day operations of the foundation, he sets the example that motivates the staff and board of directors to accomplish the foundation’s goals.
A major goal of a foundation is to raise funds to support its programs and provide scholarships and grants. Therefore, the director’s attention to fundraising efforts is critical. While other staff members may have the day-to-day responsibility for fundraising details, the foundation director makes sure all efforts stay on track. He attends fundraising events, oversees the distribution of scholarships and grants and evaluates the effectiveness of past programs. As the face of the foundation, he builds and maintains long-term relationships with key donors and potential donors.
Collaborates With Others
The foundation director collaborates with others in the community to increase and maintain the foundation’s visibility. He attends community events that may not be related to the foundation directly to demonstrate the foundation’s role within the community and to help ensure that others will attend the foundation’s events. He is charged with setting a collaborative leadership example that will encourage cooperation and good working relationships with his staff, within the board of directors and in the community.
All communications materials are approved by the foundation director before their final printing to make sure they adhere to the foundation’s desired message and image. This includes annual and quarterly reports, newsletters, fundraising letters and event flyers, press releases and other marketing and advertising materials.
Working with ACM’s Finance/ Accounting group, the foundation director prepares and proposes an annual budget to the board. The director presents the proposed budget to the board, explains increases and new plans from one year to the next, and is prepared to answer questions about budget items.
