KAPAYAPAAN SA MINDANAO – Promoting Peace Engagements and Community Empowerment Phase II (ProPEACE Phase II)

The ProPEACE Programme, implemented by Mahintana Foundation Inc. in the municipalities of South Cotabato and Sarangani, aimed to address several key issues. These included responding to the exclusion of vulnerable groups—the ‘tri-people’—from participation in local government structures. Additionally, the program aimed to tackle the factors that hinder peaceful social cohesion and create opportunities for these groups to voice their concerns and organize their representation within the domain of local governance. ProPEAC is currently in its second phase following its successful implementation from 2020–2022.  This project is funded by GCERF (Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund) and supported by the Local Government Units of Regon 12, DILG 12, DepEd 12, Hay-ato Ulama and Dolefil to help tri-people attain living in a peaceful and secured community; gaining benefits from inclusive social, economic, and government opportunities.

The ProPEACE Programme initiated activities that allowed communities to craft their Development Agenda for their respective communities and members. The program bridged vulnerable communities and their local government actors by providing trainings on Legal Accreditations, participation to Local Special Bodies (LSBs) and other means of participation in local government. Moreso, learning conversations, peer education, intercultural youth exchange, and other peace-building activities through tri-people engagements (religious and tribal leaders, in-school and out-of-school youths) are included to increase their participation and represent their respective groups well.  From its inception, ProPEACE received recognition from both the DILG and the Regional Development Council 12 – MEDAFC for its outstanding contribution as  SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) Champion. The program has been instrumental in promoting the development of fair and peaceful societies.
