Launching of mangrove tree growing project

Del Monte Foundation joined forces with the LGU of Gingoog through its city Environment and Natural Resources Office, the DENR in a Mangrove Tree Growing Project in the city. The project was formally launched through a MOU signing among the parties and the partner communities at Sitio Badiangon of Barangay San Juan on April 28.

The project aims to rehabilitate the mangroves in the coastal area of Barangays San Juan and Lunao. Residents of the area were greatly affected by the shear line that occurred in December 2022 that caused damages to their homes and even their livelihood. Under the agreement, single parents in Brgy. Lunao and fisherfolks in Brgy. San Juan shall plant and take care of the propagules until these develop roots and are firmly anchored. Their efforts shall be compensated by the Foundation through a monitoring mechanism by all involved parties. With this project, Del Monte Foundation is able to enhance and bring its environmental contribution in its areas of operation “from ridge to reef”.
