Pigsabuwahan Hu Tribu Ta Kalatungan Kaglambaga – 3rd Annual Celebration

On February 16, 2024, the 3rd annual celebration for the Pigsabuwahan Hu Tribu Ta Kalatungan Kaglambaga, a coalition of 21 barangays within Mt. Kalatungan took place at Portulin Talaandig Tribal Association, Inc. (PTTA) Tribal Hall, Pangantucan, Bukidnon.

The event started with a ritual where chickens and a pig were offered, requesting guidance from Magbabaya for a successful celebration and meeting. During the event, Datus, Baes, women, children, and youth, together with barangay representatives, share about the status of their respective communities including challenges. This is to provide the coalition with information on how to better support the Indigenous cultural communities in their efforts to protect and conserve Mt. Kalatungan.

One of the highlights of the celebration was the collaborative meeting in the afternoon between the Pigsabuwahan and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), represented by Ms. Jenifer Pancho of DOST-Bukidnon. The meeting was facilitated by Xavier Science Foundation, Inc. (XSF), as an opportunity to know more about one another, particularly on programs and community activities that may be beneficial to support the Lumad groups in their effort to promote livelihood and food production. DOST showcased opportunities for the Indigenous People under the coalition, such as scholarships and crop processing equipment.

Concluding the event, the coalition planned for a meeting on May 15, 2024, to craft and gather necessary prerequisites, such as project proposals for the offered opportunities by DOST Malaybalay. The Pigsabuwahan is grateful and hopeful for this potential engagement in Mt. Kalatungan.
