Sarangani partners with Consuelo and Alcantara Foundations in building a network of local actors for child protection

Child rights and child protection advocates from Sarangani Province gathered at the Greenleaf Hotel in General Santos City on February 2, 2024, to witness the official launch of Consuelo Zobel Alger Foundation’s Child Abuse Prevention and Intervention Network (CAPIN) Program expansion in the municipalities of Alabel, Maasim, Malapatan, and Malungon.

CAPIN aims to build a network of local actors who collaborate towards preventing and addressing child abuse cases in the area. Conrado & Ladislawa Alcantara Foundation Inc (Alcantara Foundation) serves as the implementer for Sarangani.

Specifically, the project aims to strengthen the reporting and referral of child abuse cases through an online reporting system, provide assistance to the LGUs’ Women and Child Protection Center, assist the LGUs in updating their Child Protection Policy (CPP) and Children’s Code (CC), and enhance children’s participation in process reporting and referral of child abuse cases, as well as in the advancement of the development and/or updating of the LGUs’ respective CCs and CPPs.

Maasim Municipal Mayor Hon. Zyrex Pacquiao and Malapatan Vice Mayor Hon. Jean delos Santos graced the launch. They also signed a pledge of commitment to assist Consuelo and Alcantara Foundations in developing a network of child champions for a comprehensive and coordinated approach to child abuse prevention and intervention in Sarangani. Joining them in the commitment signing were representatives from the PLGU, MLGU Malungon and Alabel, Provincial Health Office, Provincial and Municipal Social Welfare and Development Offices, the Sarangani Provincial Tribal Council, Sangguniang Kabataan, DepEd Sarangani, DILG-Sarangani, PNP Women and Child Protection Desk, Regional Trial Court – Saranganj, Public Attorney’s Office- Sarangani, and Office of the Provincial Prosecutor

Consuelo Foundation Managing Director Dr. Mariella Castillo, Strategic Innovations Manager Atty. Maia Unico, and CAPIN Project Officers Erick Name & Claude Almadin-Macutay also joined the event. 

In her message, Dr. Castillo expressed enthusiasm for the implementation of CAPIN in the province and emphasized that the project’s success depends on strong collaboration among all the agencies and sectors involved.

Alcantara Foundation has been working with the Consuelo Foundation since 2019 to ensure children in Sarangani are protected from abuse, neglect, and exploitation by providing safe and nurturing spaces for their holistic development.
