Security Bank Foundation builds classrooms, trains principal and teachers of public school in Iligan

Security Bank Foundation, Inc. implemented the full cycle of its flagship education program, “Build a School, Build a Nation” in Tambo Central School, Iligan City with the construction of a two-story, six-classroom school building turned over last November 29, 2023. SBFI also admitted a school principal, an English Master Teacher, and a Mathematics Master Teacher in the newly-launched three year training program that kicked off last July and August 2023 entitled “Mentoring Future Leaders for Nation Building.”

This school building has boosted our teachers’ confidence in delivering quality, equitable, inclusive, and liberating education. We are proud to be the first school chosen as a beneficiary in Iligan City. It will help in empowering the school community for a better future,” said Dr. John Ryan Dela Cruz, Tambo Central School Principal.

Dela Cruz’ transformational action project, the expected output of his training with SBFI, involves developing an online learning management system for instructional supervision.

The school building was constructed near the school’s secondary gate, perpendicular to Isabel Ramiro Street leading to Iligan City’s Integrated Bus Terminal. Tambo Central School has 4,200 students making it one of the most populated public elementary schools in Iligan City.

The school is known in the community for producing top students who shine in various competitions. Noteworthy achievements include silver and bronze victories at the Mathematics Wizard Challenge (IMWiC) in 2015 and 2016. They have also earned acclaim in the World International Mathematical Olympiad (WIMO), securing 3 Gold and 8 Bronze medals in 2021 (Hong Kong), 5 Gold, 4 Silver, 14 Bronze, and 3 Merit awards in 2023 (Thailand and Hong Kong), and a Bronze Medal along with a Merit Award at the 2024 World International Mathematical Olympiad (Malaysia).

Security Bank Foundation training helped me in promoting critical thinking and fostering confidence for my students, which led to an overall enhancement of their learning experience. This, partnered with the newly donated school building, helped in improving the quality of education for our students,” said Ms. Maribelle Barabag, a Mathematics teacher at Tambo Central School and one of the participants of SBFI’s teacher training program.

The school building donation marks SBFI’s 753rd classroom donation across 133 schools in 77 cities and municipalities nationwide.

It is our hope that the legacy that Security Bank Foundation leaves behind through its classroom project is a holistic improvement of the learning conditions and academic performance of public school principals, teachers, and students throughout the country to create a brighter tomorrow for the future generations of Filipinos,” said SBFI Chairman Rafael F. Simpao, Jr.
