SFI conducted Sustainable Agriculture training for its support on Gulayan sa Paaralan Project (GPP) in two (2) schools in Bangar, La Union last June 2023.
Both Rissing Elementary School and Mindoro Integrated School hosted the Sustainable Agriculture training and have received the support from SFI for their Gulayan sa Paaralan. A combined number of 143 undernourished children from both schools are targeted to be rehabilitated through the project.
The GPP will serve as a vegetable source for school-based feeding programs for undernourished children attending the school and will also serve as a support for the households’ individual Family Farm.
A total of 52 participants, mostly parent volunteers, were taught on vegetable crop production using sustainable farming technologies including hands-on preparation of organic concoctions such as fermented plant juice, fermented fruit juice, fish amino acid, oriental herbal nutrients, sili juice spray, and probiotics during the hands on exercise of the activity.
“Maraming salamat sa oras na ibinigay ninyo (SFI) para iabot itong inyong kaalaman patungkol sa pagtatanim at salamat dahil magkakaroon na kami ng panimula para sa aming Gulayan sa Paaralan.” OIC Principal Jaime Verbo graciously said after the activity was concluded.
SFI signed Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with both schools. SFI’s support is directed to help them establish their Gulayan sa Paaralan Projects this July as part of DepEd’s Brigada Eskwela Program. Parent volunteers will be mobilized to establish the Gulayan by August of 2023 and manage them to cater the students’ nutritional needs in the upcoming school year.
