Uygongco Foundation, Inc. has been awarded with DSWD Field Office VI’s ‘Salamat Po Award’, recognized as the best NGO in Region 6 for invaluable efforts towards the betterment of the vulnerable and disadvantaged children by implementing the best-practice project “Uplifting the Academically Challenged Children” in Iloilo City and Provinces of Guimaras and Capiz.

The honor was given on Friday, 6 February 2015, at DSWD’s 64th Anniversary event held at Punta Villa Resort, Arevalo, Iloilo City. Ms. Ma. Pia Paz Gan Uygongco, Executive Director of Uygongco Foundation Inc., spoke at the event on behalf of the awardees. She said,  “We believe that change for the better is the reason why we exemplify genuine concern, passion, dedication, transparency, commitment and most of all selflessness for the less fortunate.”

Last year, UFI became the first DSWD Level II accredited NGO in the region and did so after only six years of existence. The foundation is also certified by the Philippine Council of NGO Certification (PCNC). In reference to UFI’s numerous certifications, Ms. Gan Uygongco said, “All of these would not be possible if we did not have the heart and passion to genuinely share our expertise and our capabilities to our adopted communities. We practice quality and excellence.”

UFI’s major programs include providing financial assistance to over 600 elementary and high school students at 14 public schools across Iloilo City, Guimaras and Capiz. UFI elementary students are also beneficiaries of a daily feeding program, which works on improving the nutritional status of the students and ensures that they are motivated to stay in school.

UFI is the social responsibility arm of La Filipina Uy Gongco Group of Companies, home to companies such as Philippines Foremost Milling and Amigo Terrace Hotel and Mall as well as food retail brands like Amigo Sigurado pasta. The Foundation takes pride in uplifting the host communities of its companies, seeking to make them self-sustainable through education and community development.
